Parish Council Agrees To Discuss The Wilford Road Development With Residents

The Ruddington Parish Council has now agreed to allow the Protect Ruddington members and residents discuss the proposed 180 house development on Wilford Road (Sellor’s Playing Field) and the proposed ‘land swap’ with Bloors – the developers.

Annual Parish Meeting 2015 04 21 Agenda

The opportunity will be at the Annual Parish Meeting 21st April 2015 7.30pm at  St Peter’s Rooms.

The Protect Ruddington members will be submitting some questions prior to the meeting for consideration.

Councillor Allen Wood , the current Chairman of Ruddington Parish Council, has decided that, amongst other items, it would be helpful to let local electors have their say on the possible planning application from Bloors on Wilford Road and the potential ‘land swap’ of Sellor’s Playing Field.

Allen said “This is a first step in consulting local people but I must stress it is not a meeting at which binding decisions can be made on these issues. There is still a long way to go before all the information is there for a decision to be made. When the information is in, and the Parish Council has considered it, there will be a further opportunity for people to have their say before the final decision is made.”

  1. I think that this plan is eminently better than the Asher Lane plan. I have lived in Ruddington for the past 40 years and think that houses built on the Nottingham side of the village, will bring business to the village without adding to the early and late commuter traffic to Ruddington village. The idea of moving the playing field is also a good idea. Has anyone ever monitored the traffic at the rush hours?

    • Hi Jacqui, thank you for your comment. We feel the the Wilford Road proposal is unsuitable on all the same grounds as the Asher Lane Development, with the addition of the fact that the Sellor’s field was gifted to the village as a playing field. Which, if these plans go ahead will be re-located to the furthest point from the center of the old village meaning only the new houses will have direct access. This is also true for the new proposed Village Hall – meaning our older residents and families will have to walk a considerable distance to join in the coffee mornings etc…

Like Asher Lane – Sellor’s and the fields around it are Green Belt land and thus should not be built on when Brown Belt and other land is still available. In regards to your question about traffic, Wilford Road is increasingly busy – over the last few weeks there have been instances where residents have queued for over 45 mins trying to get into the village from Compton Acres/Wilford during peak times – photos have been published on the Ruddington Village Facebook. The land, as a resident for 40 years, you will know is prone to severe flooding, which hasn’t been addressed properly.

We urge everyone to read as much as they can about all proposed development before making a decision, as the developers often only tell one side of the story.

      Thank you
